2015 Dodge Ram 1500 3.0 Eco Diesel with a no start condition was created by Chad Gill
Had a customer with a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 3.0 Eco Diesel with a no start condition after replacing fuel pump with a higher flow higher pressure Fast fuel system fuel pump. Truck was running prior to the tank pump being changed out.
Customer calls me up thinking that the ECU flaked out and damaged because of the no start condition. I tested the ECU and did find one part not outputting a pwm signal to the fuel quality solenoid located on the high pressure fuel pump. Got the chip replaced and the voltage came back. tested the ecu on the truck, still a no start.
I ended up thinking possibly it was the high pressure fuel pump but found out it was new and was just replaced so we warranty out the pump just in case it was defective (bench test spinning the pump we the solenoid activated still didn't show anything pumping so I assumed the pump was defective not seeing flow. I was wrong because the pump required primary pressure first to work). We got the new pump in and same thing, no start. So we moved to the next thing - fuel injectors.. Bingo!
After coding the 6 new injectors using my scantool and got everything primed with fuel by cycling the key about 5 times before cranking, it fired right up!
I wanted to share the experience by writing about the troubleshooting process. Hopefully this will save someone time. I didnt have an injector tester or pressure tester but I did inspect the injectors under the microscope and seen pitted metal and metal missing from the tips if the injectors so it was confirmed bad injectors.
It was crazy that a running truck went to not running from changing out the tank fuel pump. It was some time of learning because that was my first 3.0 Eco Diesel I messed with but I learned a lot in the process. I do have an ECU for sale ( 2015 Dodge Ram Truck PCM | ECM | ECU | 3.0L | Diesel | 68306456AC - CLG Performance - Automotive ECU, Module, and Electronics Repair Service ) if anyone needs one I have one. If this was good info give some feedback. I will edit this post and add photos and video once I configure the forums storage settings
