Product Information

This offering from Genuine Porsche is a replacement ignition starter switch. Famously located on the left side of the steering wheel for the fastest possible LeMans style standing start, you interact with it every time you enter your Porsche. A failure here will be rather apparent, mainly presenting itself as your car not starting. The starter switch sends important signals to your ECU to get the car started. If these signals are not being relayed, you'll be left with a 3,000 pound paperweight.

Ignition Switch

An ignition switch is a component in a vehicle’s electrical system that initiates the engine’s start-up sequence and provides power to the vehicle’s accessories. It’s typically located on the steering column or dashboard and works in conjunction with the ignition cylinder, activated when you turn the key or press the start button. The ignition switch has multiple positions, including "Off," "Accessory," "On," and "Start," each supplying power to different vehicle functions.

Ignition Switch Failure Symptoms

  • Failure to Start: One of the most common symptoms is the engine failing to start or cranking intermittently, as the switch may not properly supply power to the starter motor or ignition system
  • Accessory Power Loss: Accessories like the radio, headlights, or power windows may fail to work or may turn off unexpectedly, even when the ignition is in the "On" or "Accessory" position

About Genuine Porsche

The original parts used by Porsche to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Porsche” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Porsche, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Porsche Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Porsche are not necessarily manufactured by Porsche. No cause for concern, as Porsche designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Porsche for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Porsche parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Porsche logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.
